WHY FUNCTIONAL BREATHING?

How well do you breathe?

 

Breath is the foundation of wellness and performance. The average person will take over a half a billion breaths in their lifetime, with most of them being sub-optimal.

 

Why does that matter?

How we breathe influences virtually every area of our physical and mental well-being.  Some of the areas impacted by sub-optimal breathing are, premature ageing, lowered cognitive ability (up to 30%), digestion issues, weight gain, sleep issues, stress, anxiety and reduced athletic performance.

 

How?

Whilst there are some excellent general techniques, unfortunately there is not a universal singular technique that significantly improves wellness and performance in a balanced way. To overcome this Functional Breathing™ developed the BREATHE Method. The "BREATHE Method"​ allows individuals and coaches to monitor, track and adjust individual action plans, which significantly help individuals achieve their desired wellness and performance outcomes.

 

When you enhance your breathing, you can expect benefits in in the boardroom, bedroom or sporting field. Yes, I said bedroom, and yes, it's what you are thinking....... Sleep. How we breathe during the day impact our breathing patterns when we sleep. Improving our breathing improves our sleep. And for those who were thinking about other bedroom activities, yes there are improvements there too. This occurs because our breathing influences our Autonomic Nervous System, and the same nerve that connects the brain to your lungs, also connects to our brain to our sexual organs. 

"H" In the BREATHE method is for Habits, and this includes how to address and rectify unwanted habits like smoking, poor eating, and lack of motivation. Good habits trump willpower. 

The BREATHE Method teaches us to self-audit and to see if we are at risk of respiratory related issues. Leaning how to evaluate for ourselves is a very powerful self-care tool.

What Next?

Functional Breathing™ works with individuals, coaches and companies to achieve wellness and performance outcomes. We also have found that many elite athletes and high performing executives can still perform at the highest level even with poor breathing patterns. These people have a superhuman ability to grind it out and are doing it much tougher than they need to be. From a performance perspective these people are at risk of premature burnout and significantly increase their risks of serious medical issues.
